Paul Budnitz collects rare vinyl…but not the kind that sits quietly on shelves. As the founder of Kidrobot, Budnitz introduced Hong Kong and Tokyo’s designer toys to the States; he designs Kidrobot’s own plastic novelties; and collaborates with street artists such as Frank Kozik, Dalek, and TILT, fashion labels from Marc Jacobs to Lacoste, and musicians like Gorillaz on limited-edition toys. With a new batch of knife-wielding Ninja Dunnies, legions of chain Smorkin’ Labbits, and militant Mongers born this month, a spring collection of hoodies and kicks dropping at Barney’s, and Peter Gatien’s CiRCA nightclub, which has a Kidrobot Room, opening its doors to Toronto, Budnitz brings us into his colorful, plastic world. read more
